Ecoclub has completed the acceptance of applications for the Adapterra UA 2026 competition for the best climate change adaptation solutions. This year we received 51 applications from 19 regions of Ukraine and 11 projects covering all of Ukraine. The most active applicants were Lviv, Kyiv, Rivne, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
Local governments, public organizations, business representatives, and scientific institutions that are implementing or planning to implement climate change adaptation solutions participated in the competition.
We have distributed the received applications into categories:
- 15 in the category “Climate change adaptation measure implemented by a municipality”;
- 20 applications in “Climate change adaptation measure implemented by a public organization or initiative group”;
- 16 applications in “Methodological materials on the implementation of climate change adaptation measures and climate vulnerability assessment”.
What pleases us most this year is the diversity of approaches. Among the solutions submitted for participation in the competition: restoration of peatlands, rivers, and other water bodies, creation of green corridors and urban cooling oases, regenerative viticulture and adaptive horticulture, protection of valuable natural areas, as well as methodological materials that help communities assess climate risks and plan adaptation measures.
This confirms what we believe: climate change adaptation is not an abstract topic for large offices, but concrete solutions that are already working in small and large communities across the country, even despite the war and difficult times for Ukrainians.
Next, Ecoclub will submit the applications for evaluation to the expert jury and, based on the evaluation results, will select 3 finalists in each category. We will write articles about each of them and publish them on the Adapterra UA website for open voting, which will start in September. Based on its results, the best implemented climate change adaptation measure in each category will be determined. The winners will receive up to UAH 80,000 as a reward for the further development of their initiatives.
