Adapterra UA Competition
aims to identify, recognize, and disseminate climate change adaptation measures already implemented in Ukraine in cities, villages, and communities.
Its goal is to collect best practices that demonstrate effective, sustainable, and innovative approaches, and make them visible to communities, municipalities, businesses, and all stakeholders.
Participation in the competition is an opportunity to make yourself known, share your own experience, and inspire others to act responsibly in the face of climate challenges.

Olha Liashchuk
Climate change adaptation expert with over 15 years of experience in the environmental civil society sector. Works at NGO "Ecoclub" (Rivne), where she coordinates projects, develops analytical materials, engages in strategic planning, and works with communities on climate resilience. Has deep expertise in nuclear energy and has authored numerous studies and publications on environmental topics. Actively promotes environmental initiatives at national and international levels.
Oksana Stankevych-Volosianchuk
Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Zoology at Uzhhorod National University, co-founder and ecologist at NGO "Ecosphere". Experience in environmental protection — 26 years. Author of numerous publications in the field of environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change adaptation. Professional interests: ecology, ornithology, conservation biology, ecosystem services, sustainable development, and environmental management. (Khmelnytskyi region)
Iryna Kurochenko
Head of the Ecological Center at Rivne City Palace of Children and Youth, co-author of many educational and methodological manuals on environmental education; actively collaborates with educational institutions in the city of Rivne in the direction of modernizing environmental education and implementing sustainable development technologies in the educational environment of secondary schools and preschools; author of projects implementing nature-based solutions in the urban environment, schools, and kindergartens. Author of many projects researching environmental components in Rivne and Rivne region.
Mykola Riabyka
Ecologist by education. I have over 9 years of experience working on topics of sustainable community development, climate change adaptation using nature-based solutions, waste management, environmental education, networking of civil society organizations, and green public participation.
As of October 2025, I combine several roles: I am simultaneously the executive director of NGO "Plato", one of whose main activities is the development of the environmental education and nature therapy space "Rozsadnyk" and monitoring the development of climate policy in the Lviv community, and I am also the coordinator of the Ukrainian Climate Network — the largest alliance of pro-climate organizations in Ukraine, which includes 41 civil society organizations.
Throughout all my years of activity, I have personally contributed to organizing over 250 thematic public events (lectures, info tours, master classes, etc.), as well as developing over 60 informational, educational, and analytical materials (manuals, videos, courses, etc.). I am also a co-creator of several "hard" nature-based solution projects in public spaces.
Liubov Kolosova
Expert in ecology and urban greening with many years of experience in developing sustainable solutions for the urban environment. Specializes in nature-based approaches to urban development. Actively engaged in education and popularization of modern urban greening, develops training programs and conducts trainings for municipalities in Ukraine, holds certification in tree condition assessment.
Oksana Maiboroda
Co-founder of the public greening initiative "Garden of Stories in Rivne" and city council deputy, coordinated various environmental projects and initiatives to restore green zones in the community, promotes the implementation of reform in the areas of urban greening and waste management at the local level

What is AdapterraUA?
AdapterraUA is an online platform whose goal is to collect the best practices that demonstrate effective, sustainable, and innovative approaches to climate change adaptation, and make them visible to communities, municipalities, businesses, and all stakeholders

Who can submit a solution to the platform?
Anyone can submit their climate change adaptation measure implemented in settlements, except representatives of temporarily occupied communities and communities located in combat zones.
However, only those projects are accepted for consideration that:
- Are already implemented or are in the final stage of implementation
- Are aimed at climate change adaptation and, preferably, comply with the principles of nature-based solutions (i.e., those that restore or support natural ecosystems while reducing climate risks)
- Do not contradict the legislation of Ukraine and the norms of good practice

What is an adaptation solution?
It is any action or project that reduces a community's vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. For example, water resource management, greening, heat protection, or energy efficiency in schools.
4.
Where should the project be implemented?
The project submitted to the competition must be implemented within settlements, except in the territories of temporarily occupied communities and communities located in combat zones.
5.
Who will evaluate the projects?
Projects will be evaluated by an independent expert jury consisting of at least three specialists, representatives of environmental organizations, scientists, urbanists, the municipal sector, landscape architects, etc.
Jury members and the organizations, institutions, initiative groups to which they belong have the right to apply for participation in the competition, but do not have the right to participate in the evaluation of their own applications.
